TDOC Stops Flow
of Contraband

Welcome to the official website for the Tennessee Deartment of Correction. We hope that you find this site helpful and easy to navigate.
The Tennessee Department of Correction is recognized nationally for its sound management. TDOC was one of the first departments in the country to become fully accredited by the American Correctional Association, and it's a tradition that continues. Only a handful of departments nationwide are fully accredited.

There are more than 19,000 inmates in the state's 16 prisons. Three of those are managed privately by Corrections Corporation of America. For more basic information on the Tennessee prison system, feel free to visit our Departmental Overview page.

It's important to note that juvenile offenders in Tennessee, with the exception of those who are sentenced as adults, are supervised by the Department of Children's Services. The Tennessee Board of Probation and Parole oversees those inmates who have been granted parole, as well as those who have been sentenced to probation in Tennessee. The Department of Children's Services and the BOPP function independently of the Department of Correction. For your convenience, we have provided a link to those departments via this website.
