Keith B. Hennessey Discuss Energy
Join Keith Hennessey, Assistant to the President for Economic Policy and Director of the National Economic Council, on Friday, August 1 at 1:00 PM to discuss the President’s Energy policy.

diamond image Freedom Agenda
Freedom Agenda The United States is committed to the advance of freedom and democracy as the great alternatives to repression and radicalism. The most powerful weapon in the struggle against extremism is the universal appeal of freedom. Freedom is the best way to unleash the creativity and economic potential of a nation, the only ordering of a society that leads to justice, and the only way to achieve and permanently protect human rights.

diamond image Energy Security for the 21st Century
Energy Security America's prosperity depends on reliable, affordable and secure sources of energy. President Bush believes the power of technology and the innovative spirit of America will reduce our reliance on foreign sources of energy, which will help ensure a growing and prosperous America in the 21st Century.

diamond image Tax Relief
Tax Relief President Bush's 2001 and 2003 tax relief fueled economic growth and reduced the marginal rate for every income tax bracket. By the end of last year, Americans would have paid an additional $1.3 trillion in taxes had it not been for the President's tax relief. If the President's tax relief is allowed to expire at the end of 2010, Americans will pay about $280 billion more in taxes each year. With the largest tax increase in history looming, Congress should make the President's tax relief permanent.

diamond image International Trade
Strong U.S. Economy America is economically stronger when we participate fully in the worldwide economy. When 95% of the potential customers for American products live outside the U.S., America must reject policies that would result in economic isolationism.

President Bush Attends 2008 Annual Meeting of the West Virginia Coal Association

President Bush on Thursday said, "I want to talk about the energy today. ...And I'm going to talk about the fact that this country needs a common-sense, realistic energy policy, that there's not a single solution, and that we got to work to have a comprehensive plan that takes advantage of our assets and is realistic and provides a hopeful future for our citizens."
President Bush Discusses Iraq

Play Video President Bush on Thursday said, "We remain a nation at war. Al Qaeda is on the run in Iraq -- but the terrorists remain dangerous, and they are determined to strike our country and our allies again. In this time of war, America is grateful to all the men and women who have stepped forward to defend us. They understand that we have no greater responsibility than to stop the terrorists before they launch another attack on our homeland. And every day they make great sacrifices to keep the American people safe here at home. We owe our thanks to all those who wear the uniform -- and their families who support them in their vital work. And the best way to honor them is to support their mission -- and bring them home with victory." en Español En Español

President Bush Signs H.R. 5501, the Tom Lantos and Henry J. Hyde United States Global Leadership Against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Reauthorization Act of 2008

Play Video President Bush on Wednesday said, "With this legislation, America is showing its tremendous regard for the dignity and worth of every human being. This afternoon, I want to speak directly to those around the world who have, or think they may have, HIV: A positive diagnosis does not have to be a reason for shame. So don't let shame keep you from getting tested or treated. Your life is treasured by the people who love you. It is precious in the eyes of God. It matters to the people of the United States."

President Bush Meets with Cabinet Members

Play Video President Bush on Wednesday said, "The time for action is now. This is a difficult period for millions of American families. Every extra dollar they have to spend because of high gas prices is one less dollar they can use to put food on the table, or to pay the rent, or meet their mortgages. The American people are rightly frustrated by the failure of Democratic leaders in Congress to enact common-sense solutions -- like the development of the oil resources on the Outer Continental Shelf. There are now just a couple of days left before Congress leaves for its August recess. Legislation to open up this offshore exploration is pending in both the House and the Senate -- all Democratic leaders have to do is allow a vote. They should not leave Washington without doing so."

European Commission President Barroso on Geneva World Trade Talks' Outcome
"We worked for a fair and balanced deal that would have created a win-win situation for all sides. Such a deal would have given the world economy a much welcome boost.
"We did absolutely everything we could to reconcile the different views and find compromise. The present failure does not remove the case for progress, most obviously for the benefit of developing countries."
