The Louisiana Department of Corrections (DOC) is responsible for the custody and care of adult offenders across Louisiana. Just over half of Louisiana‘s approximately 37,000 inmates are assigned to the state’s thirteen correctional facilities. The remaining offenders are assigned to parish facilities and work release centers. DOC’s Probation and Parole division supervises an additional 63,000 offenders.

Located in Baton Rouge, the Department’s Central Office (Headquarters) is comprised of divisions that support the management and operations of the adult institutions, adult Probation and Parole District Offices and all other services provided by the Department.

Employees work diligently every day to carry out the Department’s primary mission of public safety, while simultaneously working toward successful reentry for offenders and strong community partnerships.
